The cold front that moved into the bayou today brought with it the first Brown Pelican to it’s winter roosting spot. Last year we had a few dozen pelicans paint the mangroves white! Many Willets and Dowichers also made their way into the park and jockeyed for position on the south oyster bars.
Black Voltures by the dozens have been soaring overhead and I believe they sense the cold as they wait for water to drop in temp and create a fish kill situation. It’s also likey we’ll be seeing the last of the spoonbills as the cold will drive them to the Everglades wintering grounds.
