Full Moon Kayak Trips
On A Hunter’s Full Moon
“The eerie feeling of cobwebs in the face – in a dark tunnel while kayaking -redefine adventure!”
On a Hunter’s Full Moon we launched the kayak fleet from Clam Bayou and drifted past the roosting spoonbills and into the bay. Eleven paddlers peered into the overcast skies for a glimpse of a moon that is 33,000 miles closer to Earth than any other time of year. Mullet by the score busted the surface on the flats along Gulfport beach. A flock of Black Skimmers took flight during the amazing sunset that displayed pink and red streaks across the sky. Multi-colored glowsticks displayed proudly on hats and around necks gave a sense of playfulness as the flashlights guided us into Clam Bayou. The flickering lights cast shadows through the mangrove forest giving the illusion that we were not alone. Tangled roots stretched like a wizard’s fingers and teased the eyes just beyond our headlights beam. Startled herons fumbling through the dark canopy overhead kept everyone’s attention near. Around the final turn white egrets & herons dotted the dark treetops like patches of snow…time for rest now in nature’s bedroom. Sleep tight, don’t let the bedbugs bite!
